Alphons Maria Mucha, also known as Alphonse Mucha, was a Czech artist that lived from 1860 to 1939 in the Czech Republic who is most notably known for his Art Nouveau style. He has illustrated many advertisements, posters, and postcard during his career and commonly used lithography for his images. Ironically, the commercial art he is most famous for was the work he felt the least satisfied with, as he believed that true art should serve no other purpose but to speak to the viewer on a spiritual level. According him, personal work like Le Pater and The Slav Epic were his true masterpieces. Regardless of Mucha’s frustration, his evocative commercial illustrations with their smooth, flowing lines and lush imagery will remain an essential part of his image for generations to come.
